The Scarcity of Abundance

The Scarcity of Abundance

The Scarcity of Abundance

We live in a world of such abundance.  Kids these days don’t get it.  I know my Gen X cohorts feel it and hate sounding like our parents, but really, before the internet, you had to go to stores to buy what you wanted.  You were limited by what those stores had in their inventory, and you made do with what you could find out there in the retail wilds.

Today, we can just order anything we can think of.  If Amazon doesn’t have it, Google can find it.  Anything we can think of, we can have.  Anywhere we want to go, we can get to.  Our choices are virtually unlimited.

What’s more, we now have tools  that let us compare ourselves to our friends, our families, and everyone else we’re expected to maintain an appearance for or have some kind of relationship with.

Thanks to social media, we can even include strangers to judge us today.  People have always wanted to show success, but now the “trappings of success” can more readily trap us.

If our self-worth is derived from our perceptions of other people’s perceptions of us, we are doomed to try and look the part or play the role.  Part of finding enough, is deciding how you want to live.  What is important to you?  What do you value?

Most of us can have some of what we want.  Very few of us can have all of what we want, so finding your enough means deciding what do you value?  Are security and freedom your priority?  Is it taking care of the people you love?  Is it something else? How do you define your enough? Check our blog about defining your personal financial goals.
