Morning in America
A blue wave has swept elections in America, and the President’s policies and priorities have been rejected by the majority of the electorate. It turns out that Americans do care about inflation and gas prices. The availability of healthcare and the cost of health insurance matters to the voters. Most Americans don’t want unnecessary foreign wars. Tariffs are shockingly unpopular.
Markets are up as I write this the morning after the election, and likely could finish the year with a bang. A government that moves slowly without any sudden movements so that businesses and consumers can plan for their futures should provide stability in the markets.
Divided government moves slower and forces idealogues from both sides of the aisle to communicate ideas, deliberate options, and compromise on workable solutions. People disagreeing is how our form of government works. We can be friends with people we disagree with is perhaps the most American thing ever. Remember Tip O’Neal and Ronald Regan.
If we come to peace with Iran, or just leave, the price of oil should fall which will markedly help with the affordability crisis. Expect legislation to curtail or end the tariffs which will help supply chains heal and lower consumer prices.
For our national security, taking a few years off offensive military actions will allow our armed forces to resupply, regroup, and recover from extended deployments. America will be safer for the break in action.
Both sides of the isle are largely upset with the overreach of ICE. Unidentified masked agents intimidating communities has not been well received. Expect funding to potentially be pulled back and the department reigned in.
Data centers are an issue that MAGA, social democrats, and moderates come together over. Look for AI safety legislation and more control in local communities for large datacenter builds.
The social security trust fund is set to run out of money in the early 2030’s. President Trump could potentially secure a lasting positive legacy should he be able to work out a compromise with the newly elected democratic congress to bolster America’s most popular retirement program.
The free and fair transfer of power is working in America. I am incredibly optimistic about the markets going into year end. President Trump is a negotiator, and he may very well work across the aisle to preserve his relevance. The future looks bright, friends.
